In 2017, our founder's work on the Universal Conduct Risk Paradigm (UCRP) at UNECE: Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies (WP.6) asked a simple question: How do you govern AI Risk when decisions are increasingly shaped and made by machines?
That question would not let go and, in fact, became much more pressing. Over time and as part of my UN participatory policy development research on AiNR-Tech (AI, Neuro-Technology and Robotics) it grew into HAiPECR, the ethical filter listed on the OECD.AI Policy Observatory's Tool box since 2023 (https://lnkd.in/e-GaUc5y).
It also shaped ECE/TRADE/486, the UNECE - United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Common Regulatory Arrangement (CRA) for AI-embedded products and other digital technologies, agreed across 56 member states at the UN ECE WP.6 Annual session in Geneva in 2024 (https://lnkd.in/emjDRhP2)
It kept hitting the same snag: while international instruments outlined high-level expectations, risk professionals in either a regulated or unregulated organization still didn't have a comprehensive architecture to actually implement and operationalise them.
EW-AiRM® is our attempt to address this and overcome these challenges. Ten-plus years of multilateral work, translated into something a risk practitioner can pick up and put to work straight away.
